This is an annotated list of our favorite shows:
-- Every Saturday, from April through October, the Salem Saturday Market meets in the Green Parking Lot for the State of Oregon. It is located at the corner of Marion and Summer streets. You’ll find 50 to 150 vendors of everything from soup to nuts and jewelry too -- easy parking, good food and good music. The Wednesday market is located on Chemeketa Street between Liberty and High. They meet from May through October, rain or shine. The Holiday Market which is held the second weekend in December is the largest Christmas craft show in Salem.
Eugenesaturdaymarket.org
-- 2010 is the 41st year of the Saturday Market in Eugene – the oldest Saturday Market in the country! Every Saturday from April through the middle of November there are over 200 vendors (perhaps fewer in bad weather) in the Park blocks in downtown Eugene. The Eugene Holiday Market moves indoors at the Lane Fairgrounds for the six weekends before Christmas. This is the only show that goes right up to 4 pm Christmas Eve day – last minute shoppers are always welcome!
Nwfolklife.org
-- 2010 is the 39th annual Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle Center, Friday through Monday, Memorial Day weekend. This is the largest arts/crafts/music/dance event in the Northwest. The whole world performs in Seattle that weekend and if the sun shines, the central fountain park, in front of the Craft Walkway, will have standing room only.
Metropartstacoma.org
-- this is the information source for the Art a la Carte, at Point Defiance Park, Tacoma, Washington, held the last weekend in June. Vendors set up in the park overlooking the bay and Mt. Rainier. The roses are in full bloom and the food is fantastic. This show varies in size year to year but about 100 vendors blend to create a wonderful weekend.
Scandinavianfestival.com
-- This is our favorite show! These folks take their heritage seriously. For four days in August Junction City becomes a little Scandinavia. Authentic folk dancing is performed by all ages until well into the night. Maybe it’s because we have Swedish grandparents but this is just a lovely show.
Nwartandair.org
-- The city of Albany, Oregon assembles a lovely arts and craft show in Timber Linn Park the end of August each year. Hot air balloons, fireworks, outdoor concerts and lots of arts and crafts.
Octoberfest.org
-- Mt. Angel, Oregon is really a part of Bavaria for four days in mid September. This is the second largest festival in Oregon (after the Rose festival). It is enough to make you want to speak German and dance the polka.
sisterschamber.com
-- Sisters Harvest Faire, the second weekend in October, is the best of small town, big scenery, and fine art. We enjoy every moment of the crisp fall sights, sounds and fresh air. There are nearly 300 vendors who create stunning art and a real western theme show.
