The first book of Peter in the Bible is the inspiration for our business name. Chapter 2, verse 5 says Christians are like living stones being built into a spiritual house to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. We believe as we offer our lives as living sacrifices we can live each day in a manner acceptable to our Creator. Believing in our hearts and speaking with our mouths that Jesus is Lord is the way hearts of stone can become fully alive.
The inspiration for our designs is Lyle’s mother, Maggie Haigh, who lives near San Diego, California. She taught us both the art of wire wrapping. We attended both the Camp Paradise and Zyzzx Jewelry Schools sponsored by the California Federation of Gem and Mineral Societies. We have also been inspired by the Willamette Agate and Mineral Society, which is the largest such society in the Northwest. They meet the first Thursday of each month at the Salem Senior Center. We have attended classes in Tucson, Arizona and for the past eight years, we have attended the January Gem Shows in Quartzsite, Arizona. This is where we buy most of the materials that go into our creations. We look forward to continuing this conversation at one of our shows. May the Lord richly bless you.
2010 is our eighth year as Living Stones Creations. Lyle retired from over 30 years with the U.S. Forest Service in 2002. After hiking most of the Pacific Crest Trail that summer he settled down to jewelry fabrication. Vivian works part time helping people learn English and improve their job skills through the Mid-Valley Literacy Center (Una ministeria de la iglesia La Luz del Valle, Keizer, OR).
